Health Innovations 4 Life (HEIN4LIFE) is a non-profit organization, established in 2019, to uplift the lives and livelihoods of rural communities in Uganda. HEIN4LIFE’s passion is to improve the health of everyone, through health promotion, sexual and reproductive health service delivery, addressing gender-based violence, operational research and knowledge development.

HEIN4LIFE works with vulnerable groups in rural communities, including women, youth, children and adolescents, many of whose fundamental health concerns are undermined and yet they impact their wellbeing and facilitate their fully participation in social, economic and political spheres.

Hein4life’s methodologies include:
Gender Action and Learning System (GALS) – a community-led household methodology that facilitates real change in household gender relations by giving women and men more control over their personal, household, community and organisational development and also enables women to become economic actors and decision-makers.

Peer to Peer where peers are empowered with knowledge and skills to help champion in controlling their lives, transform others into responsible health citizens.

Dear Friends and Supporters

It is still amazing to me how a need and an idea can grow into a service and an organization! Since 2019, Health Innovations 4 Life (HEIN4LIFE) has blossomed from a virtual site with a phone to an integrated NGO. I am very honored to step into the role of Executive Director and getting to know many of the incredible people who make our work at HEIN4LIFE possible No amount of words can adequately thank our board members, donors, legislators community partners, volunteers, staff, and countless others who have given so generously of their time and expertise to bring this organization to life. That we have gotten from there to here is largely because of you.

HEIN4LIFE is a non-profit organization working to uplift the lives and livelihoods of rural communities putting more emphasis on community transformation where community members are empowered as problem-solvers, change-makers, and leaders more especially children, adolescents, youths and women, The right to health is fundamental to the well-being and prosperity for all however inequalities still persists, so must we build a future where all people can enjoy a healthy, productive, and dignified life, no matter where they live, this calls for societal understanding and stakeholder investment that require service models with tangible impact on community members. Only then can transition from a largely state supported approach to one incorporated within existing and evolving systems of coverage and care. Our expression of thanks will come in form of improved independence, functioning, community integration, and quality of life among the households for a better life.

Our Story

HEIN4LIFE was originally incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in 2019 and much of our community work focused on teenagers and the youth.

The team utilized schools as a tool to resource the Organisation services. HEIN4LIFEs focus on community ownership of reproductive health and Health promotion programs have never wavered, However the team got overwhelmed by the demand from independent communities for the services, this led to the registration of HEIN4LIFE as a non-profit making organization with the NGO bureau in 2020 in order to be able to improve, extend the services and to partner with other organisations.

Namara Blessing one of the founders and a reproductive health specialist worked in communities and realized that the youth, children, adolsecents and women were exposed to social injustices like early marriages, denial of education, gender based violence, unintended death and child Labour among others. Its against this background that the founder member felt a need to rise up and team with other colleagues to demarcate ways through which people can bulid resilience and rebuild their livelhoods for sustainable health life with lasting solutions.

Soon after meeting, the team created an action plan and quickly began developing a campaign for genuine, durable change. The strategy, “is to take a more holistic view of health, moving beyond survival to a well-being and social transformation which is to help achieve a world in which everyone can speak up to power, claim their human rights, live a healthy sustainable life and build a better future”.

Our team of commited and public Health proffessionals are dedicated to transforming communities of the underserved to a better world where the community members are empowered as problem-solvers, change-makers, and leaders.

ADOLESCENT INVOLVEMENT

Effective teenage health empowerment is about creating opportunities for young people to be involved in influencing, shaping, designing and contributing to community transformation We empower and involve them, allowing them to take lead in transforming lives. The use of a leaking Bottle model illustrating a leaking life has created much positive change in their lives.We work with Schools as the major institutions for providing the instruction and experiences that prepare young people for their roles as healthy, productive adults.

STRENGTHENING WASH IN SCHOOLS

Safe adequate water supply and sanitation in schools are pre-requisites for the right to basic education for school children. HEIN4LIFE has played a major role in promoting Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities among schools. This has been through establishing Tippy taps in 50 schools as a simple and economical hand washing station made with commonly available materials.

STAFF CAPACITY BUILDING

To effectively contribute towards addressing our core objectives and realizing our mission, we focus on capacity building and systems strengthening of HEIN4LIFE, as a national agency for transformation in health service delivery. We work to ensure that our staff are dedicated to embody our values of shared integrity, inclusive collaboration, sustainable resilience, and continuous learning
